Alex Childs, LPCC-S, MSE

(He/Him/His)

Hello there!

I'm the owner and sole practitioner of Avalon Counseling LLC. I started my practice to serve this community with quality mental health services and support.

I take a warm approach to collaboratively identifying and clarifying your goals and then addressing productive ways of achieving them.

I specialize in treating areas of anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationships.

I have my Master of Science in Education for Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Dayton. I'm a licensed professional clinical counselor with supervision designation (LPCC-S) trained to offer evidence-based, productive counseling. I've had specialized training and experience working with couples, mainly focusing on improved communication and healthy conflict resolution. I work with groupings navigating polyamory and open relationships, as well as relationships wanting to address affairs, infidelity, betrayals, and repair.

Before becoming a mental health counselor, I was a sign language interpreter for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing communities. I provide counseling services in fluent sign language.

I work from a holistic basis of understanding how societal factors play significant roles in our coping skills and capacities, including the effects of privilege, marginalization, racism, ableism, homophobia, stigma, and capitalism. I value uplifting clients lived experiences. I believe in changing societal norms and identifying societal barriers as the problem, not the person.

I operate from an eclectic basis of evidence-based professional orientations, including solution-focused, person-centered, Gestalt, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Avalon is the legendary resting place of King Arthur; it is a place of healing, restoration, and returning.

Avalon Counseling is meant to embody the values of chivalry, justice, loyalty, protection, and healing. Sometimes counseling is a process of arming ourselves effectively; sometimes it's knowing when to disarm and sheathe our swords. Avalon is meant to practice peaceful, fruitful discussion around our own Round Table.
